One of a Paralegal’s most important tasks is helping lawyers prepare for closings, hearings, trials, and corporate meetings. Courses in Paralegal studies include certificates, associates and bachelor’s degrees. Students should consider Paralegal coursework if they want a paralegal career or eventually want to go to law school. Though a Paralegal cannot give legal advice, represent a client in court, set a fee, or accept a case; they investigate the facts of cases and ensure that all relevant information is considered. Employment opportunities exist in the judicial system—working for judges, or in the offices of the State’s Attorney or Public Defender. Employment also can be found in private law firms, banks, title insurance companies, corporations, hospitals with corporate legal departments, legal aid organizations, and state agencies.
