The study of Mathematics provides students with specific knowledge that they may build on, such as statistical methods or techniques in applied mathematics. Mathematics teaches logical and quantitative thought; numeracy; and analysis. The range of options open to a Mathematics graduate is very wide, and mathematicians are found in almost all areas of employment. Mathematicians solve problems in such diverse fields as medicine, management, economics, government, computer science, physics, psychology, engineering, and social science. Mathematicians are most often employed in business and finance, followed by other commercial and public sector management, administrative work (particularly using numeracy), and information technology.
