Online ArtSci Courses
Studying the Art-Sciences means that coursework will be in a general area of study-philosophy, mathematics, literature, art history, economics, languages, and so on-rather than in applied or specialized field. Also known as a liberal arts education, an Art-Science education is not intended to train students for specific jobs, though it does prepare students for the world of work by providing them with an invaluable set of employability skills, including the ability to think for oneself, the skills to communicate effectively, and the capacity for lifelong learning. Education in the Art-Sciences will enhance knowledge and understanding of the world and its people. It also engages students in the controversies of the world, such as the environment, cultural diversity, social justice, ethnic strife, gender relations, or foreign policy. Employers recognize the importance of employability skills-reading, writing, listening, speaking effectively, knowledge of language, critical thinking, problem solving, basic numeracy, information literacy and the capacity to continue to learn for life. In a rapidly changing, information-based economy, the benefits of literacy cannot be overestimated.
